Why Ship Rail? 1) Rail is the safest mode of Transportation. At Canton we have had over 7 years of no loss time injuries, and zero accidents involving any hazardous commodities. 2) Rail is the most efficient mode of transportion in regard to fuel consumption and cost. For example one carload of chemical or mineral product is equal to 4-5 truckloads.A single train carrying 50 carloads of those commodities would equal over 200 trucks, with 200 drivers, while a train crew would be no more than 3 people and two locomotives. 3) Rail is the most environmentally friendly mode of ground transportation, because of our reduced emissions as compared to a comparable number of trucks. 4) Rail use provides better safety for motorists by reducing the number of trucks on the highways. 5) Rail reduces the cost of highway maintenance due to fewer trucks on the highway; thus making rail an economic value to taxpayers. 6) Railroads pay taxes on its right-of-way, property taxes, and the total cost of its track maintenance.
